La Valle Wisconsin

Real Estate and Community Information

In the heart of Wisconsin lies the beautiful town of La Valle. The town named for the French phrase meaning, “the valley” is nestled on the banks of the Baraboo River and set amid endless fields of beauty and scattered glacial bluffs. The charming all-American town is part of the larger idyllic Sauk County and intrinsically tied to the surrounding lake communities such as Lake Redstone and Dutch Hollow Lake.

History

The first known resident of the town was Samuel Karstetter in 1847 who settled in the area which was then known as Marston. It did not take long for progress to come to the area formerly known as Marsten. The abundant natural resources brought more settlers to the region. In 1851 the first schoolhouse was built and in 1861 the town was renamed La Valle.

Attractions and Activities

La Valle and the surrounding area are well known for the fishing, swimming and water sports as well as the lakes and rivers found within the region.

Lake Redstone is a popular lake known for the boating, water-skiing and swimming. The great fishing and beautiful lake views ensure that you will enjoy every moment spent on the lake.

Another popular attraction is the the 400 State Trail. The trail was created in 1993 as part of the local Rails to Trails project and not only offers beautiful scenery but also abundant wildlife and a unique view of the regional geography. The stone outcroppings and rolling pastures run parallel with the Baraboo River. The trail offers frequent views of the river as it crosses over the scenic riverbed and rolls through the rural fields of the Sauk valley.

The horse trail found on the 400 is an exciting prospect for equestrians. The 7 mile horse trail runs adjacent to bike trail between Wonewoc and La Valle.

Parks and Recreation
